Unfair Dismissal

Employees with more than a year’s service have the right not to be unfairly dismissed. Even without a year, it’s unlawful to dismiss someone for reasons relating to trade union membership, maternity or whistleblowing, to name but three, and a fair procedure should always be followed. A successful claim will lead to an award of compensation for loss of earnings, which in most cases will be capped (the Government changes the upper limit most years to keep pace with inflation).
