Prior to setting up Kervin & Barnes, Gareth was a Partner in the Legal 500 rated Employment Team at a City law firm and in-house employment counsel at various global financial institutions and brokers.
Gareth has a reputation for being a focused, effective and commercially minded lawyer with the capacity and agility to deal with complex technical issues. Gareth’s expertise and experience enables him to advise both large institutions and individuals on the full scope of employment related issues. He works closely with his clients and is often asked to assist at board level. Gareth has a particular interest in restrictive covenant advice, senior executive terminations and employment tribunal/High Court litigation. Barry Samuels l
of Counsel
Barry Samuels gained 1st class honours in both his law degree and in his professional qualifications. He has always practised in the field of commercial litigation becoming one of the youngest partners ever appointed at Nabarro Nathanson.
Barry has been involved in a vast array of different commercial disputes many involving an international element. In the last three years his work has ranged from a hotly contested dispute arising out of a shareholders’ agreement for a founder of a hedge fund to a protracted (and indeed ongoing) claim of undue influence in respect of assets worth several millions of pounds. The breadth of his experience is enormous and he considers that not much can now “faze him”. He believes that detailed reading and early but ongoing strategising is the key to all litigation but is aware that for many clients the litigation process is deeply mystifying. His approach is therefore to be highly supportive to his client but robust with the opposing party. Professional societies:

Lucy Truscott l
Partner
Lucy qualified as an employment lawyer after developing a fervent interest in the area whilst training at US law firm Bryan Cave. She subsequently worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers Legal LLP before joining Kervin & Barnes in 2011.
Lucy has advised employers and individuals on a broad range of matters including: restructuring, secondment, dismissal, discrimination, whistleblowing, TUPE-transfer and changing terms and conditions. She has also guided clients through grievance and disciplinary processes. Drafting contentious and non-contentious documentation for employers and employees following acute analysis of information and in-depth research, Lucy always ensures a client-focus; ultimately she has achieved the highly satisfactory resolution of disputes and queries. Lucy has successfully negotiated commercial settlements and conducted junior-level advocacy in the employment tribunals. Throughout her career, Lucy has provided practical training to employers of all different sizes on key areas of employment law. She enjoys keeping up-to-date with this regularly evolving area. Outside her work, Lucy really likes going to live music and the theatre. She is an avid Arsenal fan. She enjoys travelling and exploring different countries. Professional societies:

Jas was appointed to the firm in 2012 and has over 15 years of experience in business development and supply chain, with particular focus on commercial negotiations.
He has worked in the Automotive, Telecoms, Mobile, Electronics, Banking and the Energy Sectors. With companies such as Caterpillar, Motorola, Panasonic, C&W, Shell, Barclays Capital and Volkswagen.
